Summary of Improvements
- The project enhances pedestrian crossings in high-traffic areas at community assets (park, school, aquatics facility, golf course). Project locations will augment recent ADA upgrades to strengthen pedestrian safety for these crossings. 1. Division St. and Ritzville Walking Path (Southeast) Crossing connects western and eastern Ritzville along a multi-use path crossing on Division Street, the main vehicular corridor to I-90. The mid-block crossing is situated between the intersections of Smittys Blvd. and Bauman St. 2. Division St. and Ritzville City Park Entrance Located at Division St. and 10th Ave., this crossing is 45 ft wide with parking on both sides. Project RRFBs and bulb-outs on the northern corners of 10th will create safer park access, provide ADA facilities, and shorten the crossing distance. The current crossing lacks ADA features and many families with children use it to access the park and aquatics facility. 3. Wellsandt Ave. School Crossing (near 7th Ave.) This mid-block crossing connects to a corner island bordered by Chelan St. and 8th Ave. Many nearby residential units house school-aged children who use the crossing. The City recently improved ADA facilities along 6th Ave. near the Wellsandt Crossing, through a Safe Routes to School project. However, those improvements mostly benefit pedestrians coming from the west while this crossing will primarily serve those from the south and southwest, particularly during school hours.
