Existing ConditionsMany of the older elementary and middle schools in Spokane lack the accessible pedestrian facilities that are present at the recently built schools. Marked school crosswalks and other walk routes are missing ADA ramps. In other locations the sidewalk stops and starts along the walk route. Some existing school crosswalks experience higher speed traffic and streets that are wider than needed. Parents often walk kids to and from school with younger siblings in a stroller or on a bike. The lack of ADA ramps provides a barrier and safety concern for anyone using wheels. |
