Existing ConditionsWine Country Road (WCR) meets with Merlot Drive in this heavily traveled freeway commercial area less than 600 feet from the eastbound on- and off-ramps for Interstate 82 (I-82) exit 80. Although there is a well established sidewalk system east of WCR, and a marked crosswalk across the southern leg of the WCR/Merlot Drive Intersection, the west side crosswalk ends in an abandoned truck runaway zone with loose gravel and has no physical connection to the well established Lower Yakima Valley Pathway (LYVP). This gap in the active transportation system is a physical barrier preventing people of all abilities from accessing LYVP, the non-motorized commute path associated with the Citys main north/south major collector connecting major traffic generators. |

Summary of Improvements
Description of Improvements
Extending the sidewalk/pathway system from the western termini of the WCR/Merlot Drive Intersection to the LYVP removes the physical barrier of the unimproved gravel gap and completes the connectivity of the non-motorized transportation system from the heavily traveled freeway commercial area less than 600 feet from the eastbound on- and off-ramps for Interstate 82 (I-82) exit 80 along WCR.
