Existing ConditionsThe 76th Avenue South corridor, a T-2 freight route, is a key north-south connection between S 212th Street (T-1 FGTS rated), and S 228th Street (also T-2 FGTS rated) in the Kent MIC. The corridor experiences seasonal flooding and road closures that negatively affect the critical freight network in the Kent MIC. The City has been working over the last 6 years to reconstruct the corridor, raising it above the 100-year flood elevation. The segment serves a key part of the aerospace manufacturing and testing industry for the state, with continued growth in coming years. This segment of the corridor also spans Mill Creek, a salmonid bearing stream. People on bikes currently either share the lane with vehicles or travel on the sidewalk, neither of which are optimal. The pavement condition is reaching the end of its useful life, with reconstruction or significant maintenance needed. |

- Completes gap;
- Restores structural condition;
- Replaces failing bridge/culvert
Description of Improvements
The project will raise the south and final segment of the 76th Avenue South corridor to above the 100-year flood elevation. In addition, the project extends five-foot sidewalks, closing a gap in the network, adds a five-foot planted buffer, and extends a bikeable shoulder (LTS-3). The project provides habitat improvements for salmonids. And the project will replace the existing asphalt pavement with concrete.
