Existing ConditionsWollochet Drive is a high-volume principal arterial that connects residents in the county, west of the City of Gig Harbor, to the waterfront, city center, and SR-16. It is also the main connecting route for Tacoma Community College students (Gig Harbor Campus) and various K-12 schools in the region. The existing intersection LOS is F with 59 seconds of delay. The long queue times on the minor approaches force entering vehicles to make dangerous turning movements onto the busy principal arterial, Wollochet Drive. There are no pedestrian facilities that meet ADA standards. There are no bicycle facilities. There is not a crosswalk on the busy Wollochet Drive. The Crosswalk on Wagner Way is uncomfortable for pedestrians to use due to the congestion on the Wagner Way leg of the intersection. The visibility of motorists traveling southbound on Wagner Way turning onto Wollochet Drive is inhibited due to sight distance issues and the grade differential of the driving surface of the two streets. |
