The project seeks to fill an infrastructure gap for a community with a 36% poverty rate on a segment of Renton Ave. S., a high-speed arterial that connects residential areas to a neighborhood retail and public service hub and to 23-acre Skyway Park. This segment presents a significant barrier to the local communitys use of active transportation. It also restricts access to a high-frequency bus route to downtown Seattle and the Renton business core (Metro Route 106). In addition, residents have requested improved Renton Ave. S. crossings in the project area. The north side of the road segment has virtually no active transportation facilities. A few short sidewalk sections total less than a block. The remainder consists of a mix of shoulder with parked cars, rock wall directly adjacent to the road, and narrow grass verges. Though there is a sidewalk along the south side, it is a poor option for walking because it is narrow and directly abuts this high-volume and high-speed arterial.

Project Description
The project will convert one of two westbound vehicle travel lanes on Renton Aveune S with an over-2,000 linear foot of multi-use separated facility for active transportation, with a proposed buffer and markings. It will connect to facilities west of 76th Ave. S, and shorten the Renton Avenue S crossing distance. The project will improve access to 7 bus stops along Renton Avenue S, the Skyway library, Skyway Park, the Boys and Girls Club, schools, community gathering spaces, churches, a planned community resource center across from the library, and a community business district.
