This project was conceived to improve connections for bicyclists and pedestrians to Lynnwood City Center, Interurban Trail, and Lynnwood Transit Center in a safe and comfortable manner. This also begins an extension of Scriber Creek Trail to south Lynnwood/Mountlake Terrace. This projectProvides access to the Lynnwood Transit Center. The station is anticipated to attract 18,000 daily riders and since the Center will have 2,000 parking spots, convenient and safe bicycle/pedestrian access is a necessity. Improves access for community members south of I-5 to light rail services. Residents of this area fit into demographic categories indicating mass transit access should be prioritized. Expands access to regional jobs, schools, and medical services. Improves bicycle/pedestrian safety by functioning as a spur trail to the Interurban Regional Trail. Creates a main entrance to the City of Lynnwood and improves the pedestrian experience under I-5.

Project Description
The project will create a new multimodal connection to the City Center and contribute to a sense of place through sidewalk and crossing improvements, construction of a shared use path, lighting, and aesthetic features. This project will improve the connection from 44th Avenue W to the Interurban Trail (and the Lynnwood Transit Center) and begin network improvements that will extend Scriber Creek Trail to Lynnwoods southern city limits. This project will retrofit 44th Avenue W from the I-5 off-ramp to north of the I-5 underpass, replacing existing narrow sidewalks to provide a widened shared-use path accommodating pedestrian and bicycle traffic, provide pedestrian-scale lighting, and traffic signal improvements along 44th Avenue W. This project will also improve the connection from 44th Avenue W to the Interurban Trail with a more convenient facility for users of all abilities. The projects aesthetic features will create a main gateway entrance apparent to multiple modes of travelers.
Existing Condition
Project Benefits
- This project retrofits an arterial with narrow sidewalks and an I-5 underpass to create a 14-foot shared use path for bicyclists and pedestrians that makes an important connection to regional transit and trail systems. The existing infrastructure does not have adequate lighting or provide a feeling of safety or comfort to many users. Additionally, the connection to the Interurban Trail can be improved to enhance access for all users. This Project creates/improves existing infrastructure to meet Lynnwoods Complete Streets goals: An efficient and integrated multimodal system that balances mobility needs. Creation of a network that allows users of all ages, abilities, and incomes to safely use public was to access local and regional destinations. Encourages active transportation to reduce congestion, improve public health, and realize economic and environmental benefits. The infrastructure being created will expand access to City ROW for bicyclists and pedestrians and provide lighting for non-motorists. The City anticipates that the bicycle amenity will be welcoming to cyclists of all range of abilities. Additionally, this important connection to the Transit Center expands access to mass transit. Finally, this projects aesthetics and lighting features will be welcoming to more users.
