Project Description

This project includes a traffic study to evaluate lowering the speed limit, filling in the remaining gaps in multimodal improvements, and finishing the corridor with additional traffic calming elements to effectively manage speeds. A signal is being proposed at Eastmont.

Existing Condition

5th Street NE as a vital east-west connection for residents. Link Transit Routes and three schools are directly accessed from 5th Street NE. An additional school, two parks and the commercial business district are all within a three block radius of this corridor. The City has recently built 4650 lf of urban and SRTS funded improvements on 5th St. This has left an 850ft and a 1300ft gap in an otherwise continuous multimodal corridor, including the Eastmont Ave intersection performing at LOS F and with a higher rate of crashes than other comparable intersections.
