Existing ConditionsThe subject intersection is on one of a handful of routes that connect the City of Edgewood with neighboring jurisdictions, used frequently during the evening commute by pass-through traffic. Sumner Heights Drive is a historic route between Sumner and Milton, still made up of concrete panels that were originally set in the early 1900's. Edgewood Drive was constructed several years later as a more direct route from the valley to the plateau, bringing traffic to and from Sumner Heights Drive at a much steeper angle. Over the years, traffic impact loads from turning movements between Sumner Heights Drive and Edgewood Drive have caused the panels at the intersection to significantly settle. With said settling, water has collected and caused structural failures of adjacent asphalt pavement. |
