West Main Street is a main pedestrian corridor connecting the City of Elma Middle and High Schools to the downtown area. Main St has many marked existing crosswalks are, but the crossings are uncontrolled. Therefore, there is a need to improve safety along this section by increasing pedestrian visibility and driver awareness.

Project Description
Pedestrian visibility can be improved by installing Rectangular Rapid-Flashing Beacons (RRFBs) to alert drivers that pedestrians are crossing. RRFBs are becoming increasingly more common at intersections near school zones and busy downtown districts with unprotected crossings.
