Eagle Harbor and Wyatt Way is one of Bainbridge Islands main thoroughfares, carrying a functional classification of Minor Arterial, per the Federal Highway Administration. Their intersection sees the highest Average Daily Trips for vehicular traffic on the island, at nearly 9000 trips per day, and is the main connection between the southern third of the island with the Winslow Way urban core. Commuter traffic comprises mostly of vehicular trips, but this thoroughfare also sees over 200 cyclists per day, with many commuters heading toward the Winslow Core for work, or to the ferry to cross the Puget Sound. The existing street section comprises two-lanes of traffic with a variable-width shoulders along its extents, and lacks sufficient space for dedicated bicycle and pedestrian improvements, leaving pedestrians and cyclists to share shoulders with rocks, debris, and each other, while being close to the travel lanes and even crossing intersections without adequate signing or striping.
