Traffic along Hazel Dell Avenue near the Burnt Bridge Creek and Discovery Trail systems has significantly increased since these trails were originally constructed in the late 1990s. The trail system crosses Hazel Dell Avenue with offset legs that are nearly 800 feet apart. In addition, there are no sidewalks or bike lanes along the west side of Hazel Dell Avenue between the trail terminus points. As such, users must cross the busy street to gain access to the existing sidewalk along the east side of the street. Furthermore, the horizontal alignment and slope in the road just north of where the west leg of the trail connects to Hazel Dell Avenue is a sight distance and safety issue. And finally, there are no marked crossings for the trail at either of the offset terminus points where users can safely cross Hazel Dell Avenue.
