Project Description

The proposed pathway on the north side of Highway 2 will complete a shared use pathway that extends west along Highway 2 which connects to the City sidewalk at Garfield Road, and continues for the remainder of the City limits. The path along the south side of Highway 2 will complete the current sidewalk east to the Cinema. Having sidewalks on both sides of the road completed will ensure that crossing Highway 2 at an unsignalized and dangerous intersection is not necessary for all non-motorized travel including residents with disabilities.

Existing Condition

The need is for a path that connects the City central business district and residential neighborhoods with a large movie theater (Village Centre Cinemas) and a large apartment complex (Deer Creek Apartments). The Deer Creek Apartments consist of 156 units that are currently 100% occupied. The residents use the route to travel to and from the large shoping center at Hayford Road and Highway 2 as well as other businesses within Airway Heights. The route needs to be completed for safety, comfort, and the ability of persons who need ADA compliant walkways to get to and from these major businesses along the route.
