Project Description

This ADA Ramp retrofit project will satisfy federal funding requirements for ADA upgrades required for pavement preservation planned for 2025 along 33rd Ave W and AMP. This project will also add a curb ramp adjacent to LES that was school request to the City and supports an ongoing project to improve pedestrian amenities in the surrounding neighborhood. The City combined necessary ramp & sidewalk repairs to obtain more competitive bids for these repairs improve bids for pavement preservation and eliminate need for ROW certification related to federally-funded construction. The ramps and sidewalks addressed with this project are significant facilities in that they are adjacent to the Alderwood Mall within the City's identified Alderwood Business District, and one ramp adjacent to a school and park. These facilities will serve non-motorized users, pedestrians, and transit commuters, as they access the various commercial, business, and shopping districts around the mall, as well as 67 daily transit trips along Alderwood Mall Pkwy, the upcoming new Route 103 and the recently opened Swift Orange Line along 33rd Ave W, providing local and critical regional connectivity. The LES ramp is critical as it will serve school children from the surrounding neighborhood and additionally, it is adjacent to Lynndale Park, a facility used year round for youth sports, events, and summer camps.
