Project Description

The overlay is funded with a federal grant. Bicycle facilities will be added with a Bike lane for the uphill portion (eastbound) and bike sharrows in a 13' travel lane for the downhill portion (westbound). A bike lane in the westbound direction wasn't feasible due to roadway width and parking. Corner bulb-outs with ADA compliant curb ramps will be added at the intersections of 7th (north side) and 8th (s/w & n/w corners) Avenues. This will improve pedestrian safety by reducing the crossing distance and providing better visibility for pedestrians and vehicles approaching the intersections. The bike and pedestrian improvements are adjacent to the City's France Anderson Community Center where festivals, community activities and child programs are held throughout the year and the Sno-isle Edmonds Library.Main St. is a key corridor for citizens to access events at this facility. The implementation of complete streets elements will improve safety and access for transit riders that use existing Community Transit bus stops. The project should help calm traffic speeds since the bike lane and bulb-outs will reduce the width of the existing travel lanes.Stormwater detention is required for new and replaced surfaces for the bulb-out additions, curb ramp upgrades and minor sidewalk modifications.
