Project Description

This project will be reducing the existing roadway width to provide a sidewalk with planters, illumination, and various amenities and artwork. ADA-compliant curb ramps and parking has also been incorporated. The Overlook is at a very high vantage point, and this sidewalk connects the Overlook to a stairway that leads down to the bottom of the hill, where it ties into a complete-streets corridor. This connecting street, East McKinley Way, provides direct access to the neighborhood businesses to the south, promoting community involvement and creating a cohesive plan for future connections to the west and the overall business district of the McKinley neighborhood. East McKinley Way also provides access to the Dome district to the west, which is frequented by people looking to use the main transit hub as well as attend events at the Tacoma Dome and Freighthouse Square.
