Sunnyslope is a rapidly growing, urban area adjacent to the northern Wenatchee city limits. Primary traffic on this route includes residential and school bus traffic. The existing failing roadway structure, narrow width and lack of pedestrian facilities does not serve the current needs of the developing residential area located within a quarter mile of Sunnyslope Elementary School. It also does not serve the area's future needs. The land use forecast for the Sunnyslope area which is served by Knowles Road, projects that use will double in the next 20 years creating new travel demands to a route that is already deficient. The community needs this project to improve safety on the existing narrow roadway and to provide alternate means of commuting to school or work.

Project Description
The project constructs a 32-foot wide roadway with 11-foot wide lanes and 5-foot wide shoulders. The shoulders are intended to serve as a Type 2 Bikeway as identified in the Greater Wenatchee Bicycle Master. In addition, the county plans to install curb, gutter and five-foot wide sidewalk on the westerly side of the roadway. Additional stormwater facilities will be installed where new curb and gutter is proposed to correct drainage issues and prevent damage to the roadway surface and shoulders. The project bridges the gap between existing developed road sections and the Sunnyslope community.
