Custer Road is located within Lakewoods Custer Road/Walmart Center and is the northern most east-west principal arterial connection between Bridgeport Way SW and Lakewood Drive SW within the City limits. The next east-west principal arterial connection is nearly 2 miles north (Cirque Drive in University Place). Custer This project will complete the non-motorized transportation gap and tie together all of the previous investments. This remaining gap lacks sidewalk along 80% of the length, leaving pedestrians to walk along narrow, unimproved frontages. There is no continuous left turn lane facilitating left turns into commercial businesses or left tun pockets at the intersection roads. Street lighting is sporadic and there are no bicycle facilities within the project limits. Many of the commercial properties have unobstructed full frontage access.

Project Description
This project is to complete the final gap of improvements between previous projects while preserving and upgrading the corridor to meet current urban safety standards. Elements include widening the corridor to accommodate a continuous two way left center turn lane and bicycle facilities (sharrow with 13-foot-wide outside lanes.). Curb gutter and sidewalks and street lighting will be installed along both sides of the corridor and the storm system will be reconstructed to meet the new cross section. Audible pedestrian crossing hardware and other ADA upgrades will be added to the signal at 75th St W. Full depth pavement reconstruction will be necessary in areas of suspected base failure and the road will be milled and profiled with pre-level and a 2-inch hot mix asphalt overlay will renew the road surface.
