Currently, the 240th St and Meridian Ave intersection consists of a four-way stop operating at a level of service (LOS) E experiencing delays of 40 to 50 seconds and queues up to 450 feet during peak hours. Of the four (4) street crossings, only two have crosswalks. Of the four (4) intersection corners, only two have compliant ramps. Of the eight (8) possible locations for pedestrian paths leading to the intersection, there are less than three (3) compliant pedestrian pathways. In regards to lighting and pedestrian visibility, there is one (1) luminaire mounted to an utility pole at the southwest corner, and this luminaire is responsible for illuminating the entire intersection. As a result, oncoming traffic and pedestrians become obscured, especially during the winter months. All four (4) corners of the intersection are designated school bus stops for the Northshore School District, which not only require pedestrians of all ages to cross 240th and Meridian multiple times a day, but also require traffic to queue, not just during peak traffic hours. 240th St SE is a major collector that experiences approximately 12,150 vehicles per day and Meridian Ave is a minor arterial that experiences approximately 15,959 vehicles per day. By 2040, the projected vehicles per day within 240th is 14,390 and 18,901 within Meridian. Furthermore, between 2020-2022, there were fifteen (15) intersection-related traffic collisions, of which eight (8) reported bodily injury.
