This project is needed to facilitate traffic flow and safety in an area with growing traffic concerns and business/light industrial uses near a public park and middle school. The intersection is currently controlled by a two-way stop on the east and west legs. The east and west traffic must compete with heavy southbound and northbound traffic on Redmond Ridge Drive NE during the morning and afternoon commutes. Additionally, the intersection only has one crosswalk, on the south leg of Redmond Ridge Dr. NE. The project will provide an improved intersection level of service for the Redmond Ridge Community. The area has seen increasing growth, with the recent addition of Timberline Middle School, the expanding SpaceX facility, and an expansion in other light industrial/warehouse business facilities, as well as numerous trails, ball fields, and parks. SpaceX is an Aerospace manufacturer and space transport company with over 10,000 employees nationwide. The Redmond location is one of nine offices in the U.S. As the business park and community continue to develop, vehicle delays at the intersection will increase significantly. This project will improve traffic flow and neighborhood pedestrian safety for area residents, including children traveling to the nearby park and middle school.
