The intersection of US 97 and Engh Road experiences a significant amount of traffic. As the traffic counts have increased, the area has experienced increased traffic accidents. Engh Road is a critical access point to numerous retail outlets which compose a major shopping center for Okanogan County. It is also anticipated that the City will continue to expand to the east. In order to provide sufficient access to this major retail area, additional capacity is required at the intersection. Westbound traffic queues and blocks the right turn lane, resulting in larger cues, reduced mobility and access to US 97 and businesses, and more accidents.

Project Description
The capacity of the intersection will be increased through the addition of another westbound lane. The additional lane will provide access to right turns on US 97 northbound and will also provide an additional travel lane through the intersection, which will extend to Omache Drive to provide access to the Omache Shopping Center. This will help to reduce the length of queued cars by allowing northbound cars to turn right at red lights and by allowing more westbound cars through the intersection during green lights. This project will help to alleviate traffic congestion in one of the busiest intersections in Okanogan County. The entrance to McDonald's which is closest to the intersection will also be closed in order to provide better access control and help to eliminate conflicting turn movements.
