Existing ConditionsOne of the main concerns staff heard during the outreach and development of the City Beautification Action Plan and the Twin City Mile project was the high rate of speed of traffic on 271st Street. The key to managing traffic speed is to slow it down before it reaches downtown. The purpose of the east end near-term improvements is to promote pedestrian visibility and calm traffic as vehicles travel along the corridor and to add beautification of the corridor. Two implementation projects are being proposed: 1. Traffic Calming bulb outs at the 88th Avenue NW / 271st Street NW intersection and elimination of a left turn lane to straighten alignment of 271st St. NW. to continue implementation of the downtown beautification project. 2.Traffic calming bulb outs in the mid-block crossing for pedestrian safety and beautification. |
