Existing Conditions

This project was conceived to improve connections for bicyclists and pedestrians to Lynnwood City Center, Interurban Trail, and Lynnwood Transit Center in a safe and comfortable manner. This also begins an extension of Scriber Creek Trail to south Lynnwood/Mountlake Terrace. This project: Provides access to the Lynnwood Transit Center. The station is anticipated to attract 18,000 daily riders and since the Center will have 2,000 parking spots, convenient and safe bicycle/pedestrian access is a necessity. Improves access for community members south of I-5 to light rail services. Residents of this area fit into demographic categories indicating mass transit access should be prioritized. Expands access to regional jobs, schools, and medical services. Improves bicycle/pedestrian safety by functioning as a spur trail to the Interurban Regional Trail. Creates a main entrance to the City of Lynnwood and improves the pedestrian experience under I-5.

Description of Improvements

The project will create a new multimodal connection to the City Center and contribute to a sense of place through sidewalk and crossing improvements, construction of a shared use path, lighting, and aesthetic features. This project will improve the connection from 44th Avenue W to the Interurban Trail (and the Lynnwood Transit Center) and begin network improvements that will extend Scriber Creek Trail to Lynnwoods southern city limits. This project will retrofit 44th Avenue W from the I-5 off-ramp to north of the I-5 underpass, replacing existing narrow sidewalks to provide a widened shared-use path accommodating pedestrian and bicycle traffic, provide pedestrian-scale lighting, and traffic signal improvements along 44th Avenue W. This project will also improve the connection from 44th Avenue W to the Interurban Trail with a more convenient facility for users of all abilities. The projects aesthetic features will create a main gateway entrance apparent to multiple modes of travelers.
