Existing Conditions
A recent development project completed 500 affordable apartments to the south of 49th Street NE, east of D St NE and a park to the north. Residents from this development are not currently provided convenient non-motorized access to Auburn Way N, due to the reduced roadway cross section to the west of D St NE.
The project will complete non-motorized connections to between D St NE and Auburn Way N. This will provide non-motorized access between the development and the Auburn Way N corridor, including existing bus stops located to the north and south of the 49th Street NE signal. King County Metro (KC Metro) is converting the existing bus service to the RapidRide I line in 2026. RapidRide is KC Metros highest level of investment in convenience, innovation, reliability and service.
The project will also support planned commercial development to the north of 49th Street NE to the east and west of D Street NE. Preliminary work on this development currently underway.
