Existing ConditionsThe two crossing improvement locations included in this project are included in Pierce Countys Safe Routes to School Plan, and were identified by the Puyallup School District as priority projects in their district which would expand the walk areas for two schools: Brouillet Elementary School (Gem Heights Dr E at 94th Ave E) and Carson Elementary School (Gem Heights Dr E at 182nd St E). Brouillet has approximately 550 students and over 52% live within the designated walk area for the school. Carson has approximately 680 students and over 85% live within the designated walk area for the school. |

Increasing pedestrian visibility at the crosswalks will be accomplished by installing rectangular rapid flashing beacon (RRFB) systems at each of the two locations, as well as associated illumination.
