Existing ConditionsSE 8th Street is classified as an Urban Minor Collector. It is a narrow residential street without sidewalk on either side for most of the section from SE Birch Ave to SE Larch Ave. Development along SE 8th Street is mostly built out so the opportunity to add new sections of sidewalk as part of development is limited. S. College Ave is an Urban Principal Arterial and SE Larch Ave is an Urban Minor Arterial. Most public facilities are located on S. College Avenue such as the post office and city hall. SE 8th Street leads directly to Lions Park located adjacent to SE Larch Ave. Opportunity for pedestrians to access the community services and public areas are severely limited due to lack of continuous sidewalks on SE 8th St. |

This project will provide continuous sidewalk from SE Birch Ave to SE Larch Ave., on the south side, by filling the gaps west of SE Vintage Way and the gap to the east mid-block between SE Whispering Creek Ct and SE Larch Ave. The project will provide ADA ramps and reconstruction an existing substandard ramp. The project goal is to provide pedestrian access along SE 8th Ave connecting to city essential locations. To achieve this goal, construction on the south side of SE 8th Street requires less sidewalk construction and cost to achieve this goal.
