Existing ConditionsRiverside Avenue was a 4-lane roadway (2 lanes each direction) with on-street parking and was recently restriped to a 3 lane section with bike lanes. Daily traffic volume is approximately 4,000 and is a high volume transit route given the presence of the Spokane Transit Plaza located within the project limits between Post St. and Wall St. Much of the pavement is in poor condition. The sidewalk condition is generally acceptable with some isolated areas in need of repair. The traffic signal system at Post St. is an older signal system in need of replacement. New ADA ramps are also needed at the Post St. intersection. |

The proposed cross section includes continuation of the 3-lane section with protected bike lanes (protected by parking) similar to recently implemented improvements on Riverside east of Wall St. The project will perform a grind and overlay of existing asphalt pavement and limited full depth pavement repair where needed. The project will also install a new traffic signal system at the Post St. intersection and including an Audible Pedestrian Signal system and implementation of an advanced signal phase in the signal timing. Corner curb bump-outs will be considered where feasible shortening pedestrian crossing distances and improving driver awareness of pedestrians at intersections.
