Existing ConditionsThis section of Red Apple Road is near multiple pedestrian generators including Wenatchee High School and Central Washington Hospital. The corridor lacks both pedestrian and bicycle facilities, and is primarily comprised of two travel lanes and on-street angle parking. During events at the high school or its track facility, the only choice for students and families who park on Red Apple Road is to walk in the travel lane in order to access the school property. Additionally, this segment is in need of pavement preservation. The road had a PCI of 64 when it was rated in 2017. City crews placed a thin overlay on the travel lanes in 2018. The road was rated again in 2019 and had a PCI of 71.There is also an eight building apartment complex under construction, and an additional parcel on the south side of Red Apple Road that is generating development interest. These develpments will continue to increase both vehicular and non-motorized traffic on Red Apple Road. |

Reconfigure street with parallel parking on both sides, conventional EB bike lane, raised and curb separated bike lane WB (potential transition to conventional after school), and sidewalk on both sides. A midblock crossing will be placed near multifamily housing access point, and the illumination system will be upgraded to provide adequate lighting levels throughout the corridor. The development under construction is constructing half street improvements as shown in the typical sections. HMA overlay of the existing roadway to tie the new widening and to preserve existing asset.
