Existing ConditionsThe Bethel corridor experiences the largest number of collisions of any City operated and maintained corridor. The highest number of serious injury accidents occured at or near the Bethel/ Lincoln and Bethel/ Mitchell intersections. The purpose of the project is to address the location with the highest number of serious injury accidents in the City. For additional information refer to the City's Local Agency Roadway Safety Plan. The City received a State City Safety Program Grant to provide a roundabout at the intersection of Bethel Avenue, Lincoln Avenue, and Lunberg Road. The preferred design alternative includes a second roundabout at the intersection of Lincoln and Mitchell. |

Roundabouts at the Bethel/ Lincoln/ Lundberg and Lincoln/ Mitchell intersections and the removal of the Bethel/ Mitchell intersection are the preferred altenative to provide the highest level of safety enhancement and functionality for traffic. There are two existing intersections with poor configurations. Lundberg is not aligned with Lincoln. Mitchell forms a "Y" intersection with Bethel. The proposed solution removes these oddly configured intersections that are contributing to the high number and severity of crashes.
