Existing Conditions

This project is needed to improve safety for pedestrians and students traversing Mill Road SE near Ridgeline Middle School and Mill Pond Elementary School. The existing roadway offers no protection from vehicles turning movements or passing by. This is a gap in the sidewalk system between the intersection of the 104th Avenue SE and 107th Loop SE. This project will provide an ADA compliant walkway along the west side of Mill Road SE to eliminate the gap in the sidewalk. From a school official (2017),374 children that live within 1-mile of the school are not accounted for in bus/bike trips, are assumed to walk.

Description of Improvements

The project includes the construction of a 5-ft wide cement concrete sidewalk with a 5-ft planter strip and vertical curb and gutter from the intersection of 104th Way SE and Mill Road SE to the intersection of 107th Loop SE and Mill Road SE on the west side of the roadway. This will eliminate the gap in sidewalk for people that traverse Mill Road SE.Additionally minor illumination improvements and crossing enhancements will be added to improve overall visibility and safety through the corridor.
