Existing Conditions

The Town of Wilkeson has a very small population, however, our sidewalks see a considerable amount of pedestrian traffic daily. The towns Elementary School is on the south side of the town and there is no bus service for in-town residents, meaning all students walk to and from school each day. We also have had a revival with our downtown business district, with three new businesses opening and thriving in the last five years. There are also tourists visiting the town on their way to visit Mount Rainier National park and using the Foothills Trail that terminates in the center of town. This section of sidewalk is in poor condition and does not meet ADA criteria. It is uneven and does not provide a safe walking path for those with limited mobility due to the trip hazards as well as the cracked and uneven panels of the sidewalk. The project is identified in the Rural Town Center Corridor Plan, which was completed in 2012, the last phase needed to complete the Town Center Walk Project.
