Existing Conditions4th Street between Cedar Avenue Highland Avenue has only sidewalk on one side of the street. In addition, the street is not wide enough to allow bikes for students to travel to and from the Elementary, Middle School and High School. 4th Street is the only way to cross Brezee Creek for citizens driving, biking or walking from the east side of La Center to downtown businesses. |

The 4th Street widening project will provide 7-feet wide sidewalks on each side of the street, and 5-feet wide buffered bike lanes on each side. Retaining walls will be installed to facilitate the new sidewalk and bike lanes on each side. A new bridge will be placed over 4th Street to replace the undersized 36-inch culvert. This new bridge will connect travel lanes, the new sidewalk and the new bike lanes east and west of Brezee Creek
