Existing Conditions

Accessibility barriers examined were cracked and uneven sidewalks, vertical faults, sidewalk obstructions, and lack of curb ramps. Present curbs and landings had noncompliant width, running slope and cross slope with an Accessibility Index Score of 21-30 or more barriers. Sidewalks had an Accessibility Index Score of 14-20 barriers and overall, ranked a Significant Compliance Issue.

Summary of Improvements

  • The City seeks funding from TIB Complete Streets program to provide structural improvements and transition Peabody St. to meet accessibility standards guided by the Port Angeles ADA Transition Plan and Complete Streets ordinance. The aim is to provide accessible pedestrian routes for travelers of all ages and abilities that connect residential areas safely to schools, businesses, transit and paratransit, public library, social services agencies, community center, senior citizen center, and senior living apartments along Peabody St. from Lauridsen St. to First St.

Description of Improvements

The project will install approximately thirty-five (35) ADA curb ramps and replace 100 ft of sidewalk.
