The project will enhance pedestrian safety measures at various uncontrolled intersections that are part of school routes and other high-volume crossings.

Project Description
This project will construct concrete sidewalks, curb ramps, and will add illuminated RRFBs. These improvements will better define and safeguard the pedestrian path-of-travel.
Existing Condition
Project Benefits
- This project will enhance pedestrian safety measures by upgrading existing curb ramps and constructing new curb ramps to complete pedestrian routes, installing two (2) solar powered Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFB) each per pedestrian crossing. Intersections to be improved are NE 15th Ave and NE Everett St, NE 43rd Ave and NE Hayes, NE Fargo St and NW 27th Ave, NW Lacamas Ln and NW Lake Rd, and NW 6th Ave and NW Norwood. The RRFBs will be operated by push-button and pedestrian lighting will provide illumination across the entire crosswalk. In addition to curb ramps and illuminated RRFBs, the intersection of NW Lake Rd and NW Lacamas Rd. will get a pedestrian refuge island. The island will be constructed within the turning lane of NW Lake Rd and will have a concrete curb. In addition to encouraging the slowing of motorists, the calming islands will shorten the length of the crosswalk, increase visibility of pedestrians, and provide a shielded waiting area.
