Everett Avenue, between Broadway and I-5, is a busy corridor with significant pedestrian and vehicular traffic. It includes critical intersections at Baker Avenue and Rainier Avenue, both requiring safety improvements for pedestrians. Recent traffic concerns include multiple fatal pedestrian crashes and the connection to the future light rail and Everett Station. The installation of Rectangular Rapid-Flashing Beacons (RRFBs), Audible Information Devices (AID), high-visibility crosswalks, curb extensions, and ADA compliant ramps will address these issues and increase pedestrian safety and connectivity. In addition, 79th Place SE, near Evergreen Middle School and the nearby Four Corners housing development, lacks essential pedestrian safety features. With daily foot traffic to school and a new housing development, the installation of RRFBs, AID devices, high-visibility crosswalks, ADA ramps, and a new school driveway ramp will ensure safe passage for students and families.

Project Benefits
- This project addresses critical safety and accessibility needs along Everett Avenue and 79th Place SE by implementing key Complete Streets principles. At Everett Avenue, between Broadway and I-5, the project will enhance pedestrian safety and connectivity. The installation of Rectangular Rapid-Flashing Beacons (RRFBs), Audible Information Devices (AID), and high-visibility crosswalks will improve visibility for pedestrians, especially those with visual impairments. Additionally, curb extensions will shorten crossing distances and slow down traffic, while ADA-compliant curb ramps ensure accessibility for all users. On 79th Place SE, near Evergreen Middle School, the project focuses on enhancing pedestrian safety for students, families, and residents of the Four Corners housing development. It includes RRFBs, AID devices, and high-visibility crosswalks, creating safer routes to school and the new housing development. The project also upgrades ADA ramps and replaces the school driveway ramp to meet ADA standards, improving overall accessibility. Both locations incorporate traffic calming strategies and improved pedestrian infrastructure, making them safer and more accessible for everyone, from pedestrians to future transit riders and cyclists. This project will increase safety, mobility, and connectivity for the community while aligning with Complete Streets goals.
