The Highline High School, Burien Transit Center, and Lake to Sound Regional Trail are all located in this corridor, which creates a higher number of pedestrian crossings and cyclists from the adjacent neighborhoods, as well as increased vehicular volumes that are dropping off/picking up students attending the school. This increased volume creates a higher risk environment for all modes, creating a need to provide safe and dedicated facilities for vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists. The S 152nd St corridor has been identified as a high priority corridor for safety improvements based on crash history, High Injury Network (HIN) analysis, High Risk Network (HRN) analysis, presence in the Overburdened Communities of WA area, and community/stakeholder input. This segment is located entirely on the All Modes HIN, with 58 total crashes, 2 of which are classified as KSI. One crash has involved a pedestrian that was injured.

Project Description
The S 152nd St project will provide a safe non-motorized connection between Lake to Sound Regional Trail and the Burien Transit Center.
Existing Condition
Project Benefits
- This project will construct ADA-compliant curb-ramps and sidewalks, bike lanes, and crosswalks with RRFBs, connecting neighborhoods to the Burien Transit Center, Highline Highschool, and the Lake to Sound Regional Trail. The design includes driveway consolidation, medians, and two-way left turn lanes to reduce vehicle conflicts and improve safety for all users. The City has also received construction funding from Sound Transit to construct a continuous bicycle connection from the Burien Transit Center to the Lake to Sound Regional Trail. This project completes a critical segment of the continuous bike and pedestrian route which will provide a seamless connection between those two key destinations. Separating travel modes, calming traffic, and improving crossings will reduce crashes while supporting walking, biking, transit, and driving. These upgrades advance Buriens complete streets vision by providing safe, accessible, and equitable transportation options for people of all ages and abilities.
