Community engagement for the Comprehensive Plan update identified this gap in the pedestrian and bicycle network as a priority project. S Reith Road provides the main east-west bicycle corridor and transit route (Route 183) connection for the Citys West Hill. S Reith Road is a two-lane, winding road traversing the Citys West Hill. At the network scale, the road connects West Hill communities to services in downtown Kent and the employment center in the Kent Manufacturing Industrial Center. At the local scale, West Fenwick Park is currently accessed by pedestrians on S Reith Road via a wide, paved shoulder. Sidewalk and bike lane projects are currently under construction to the west of this project segment and will be completed in 2025.

Project Description
The project would complete the gap in the sidewalk and bicycle network by constructing about 250-feet of shared use path (SUP) and 700-feet of ten-foot wide walkway protected by an extruded curb.
Existing Condition
Project Benefits
- The project would complete the gap in the sidewalk and bicycle network along the north side of S Reith Road by constructing about 250-feet of shared use path (SUP) and 700-feet of ten-foot-wide walkway protected by an extruded curb. The SUP segment would connect to a segment currently under construction at the S Reith Road and Military Road S intersection, completing the gap from Military Road S to 238th Ave S. A ten-foot wide walkway protected by an extruded curb would extend further east, closing the gap between 238th Ave S and 42nd Ave S along the W Fenwick Park frontage. This segment would close the sidewalk gap to the marked crosswalk at 42nd Ave S and connect to a planned ten-foot wide shared use path east of 42nd Ave S. The two-mile long corridor is included as a key multimodal improvement in the Kent 2044 Comprehensive Plan.
