Project Description
Restripe main street for one lane each direction, a two way left turn lane, and bike lane. Construct bulb outs at intersections, ADA compliant ramps, and install RRFB systems.
Existing Condition
Project Benefits
- The community of Dayton WA would benefit from a safer and more accommodating Main Street, as this is the major road servicing business and access to the US 12 Highway. The reduction of lanes, addition of two-way left turn lane, dedicated bike lanes in each direction, ADA compliant bulbouts, cross-walks, and on street parking will accommodate all users as well as improve safety by reducing vehicular speed as the number of lanes are reduced and providing dedicated left turn lane. In addition, the sidewalks and ramps will be upgraded to include ADA complaint ramps and high visibility crossings with bulb outs to improve the safety for pedestrians and cyclists. Stamped concrete or other non prepared surface will also be proposed at the intersection bulb outs for beautification and safety for users. The on-street parking improves access to local businesses as well as bus shelters and adds a buffer between moving vehicles and sidewalks, enhancing pedestrian comfort. With the implementation of a road diet and reducing the number of lanes and introducing the TWLTL, the reduction in conflict points and crashes is significant. It reduces the number and severity of collisions by 29%. This project directly supports the principles of Complete Streets by designing the corridor to safely accommodate all users.
