Fair Avenue serves as a major north-south connection for residents traveling from Downtown Yakima to the commercial centers in the southern portion of the City. Fair Avenue helps support vehicular and pedestrian traffic during the Central Washington State Fair (CWSF), a regional event attracting over 300k attendees annually. Sidewalk facilities exist along the frontage of State Fair Park on the east side of the street. However, a significant amount of pedestrian traffic is generated on the west side of Fair Avenue by patrons attending the CWSF and numerous other events held at State Fair Park.

Project Description
Construct curb, gutter, sidewalk, and storm drainage along the west side of Fair Avenue. Construct pedestrian crossing improvements (bulb-out and RRFB) at Fair/Arlington intx.
Existing Condition
Project Benefits
- Construction of sidewalk and crossing improvements serving the west side of Fair Avenue will improve accessibility to several vital pedestrian generators, including State Fair Park, Adams Elementary School, Washington Middle School, MLK Jr Park Aquatic Center, Southeast Community Center, Kiwanis Park, and other commercial/industrial generators. The existing roadway geometry and right-of-way width will be considered during design to determine if bike lanes are feasible. This project will provide functional pedestrian accessibility and greatly improve the aesthetics in this area. Access to existing bus stops serving Yakima Transits Fair Ave/N 4th Street loop will be considered during design.
