Rhoton Road NW is a critical north-south connector in Yelm providing access to neighborhoods, schools, and the regional transportation network, including future integration with SR 510 Yelm Loop Phase 2. The corridor currently has narrow travel lanes, failing pavement, poor drainage, and inadequate shoulders. Utility infrastructure is undersized and nearing the end of its useful life. The lack of curb and gutter contributes to uncontrolled runoff, shoulder erosion, and accelerated pavement deterioration. These conditions create safety hazards for motorists, particularly during winter storms and peak school traffic. The corridor also lacks pedestrian facilities, limiting safe access between residential areas, civic services, and parks. Without reconstruction, these deficiencies will worsen and compromise the roadways ability to safely and efficiently connect to the regional highway system.

The City of Yelm proposes a full reconstruction and minor widening of approximately 3,950 feet of Rhoton Road NW between Railway Rd SE and View Dr NW. Improvements include upgraded subgrade and base, new HMA pavement, curb and gutter, and replacement of aging stormwater, sewer, and water utilities.
