80th Avenue NE is an arterial street with a posted speed of 35mph carrying over 6,500 vehicles per day. This roadway is frequently traveled by Snohomish County commuters traveling to/from SR522. There is no street grid in this area, and all sides streets dead-end onto 80th Ave NE, requiring residents to walk and bike along 80th Ave NE to access school bus stops, bus transit on SR522 and recreational facilities like the Burke Gilman Trail. There are large gaps in sidewalk requiring pedestrians to walk along narrow paved shoulder and ditch sections, against vehicle and bike traffic. There are multiple school bus stops within the project limits where kids frequently cross 80th Ave NE to access their bus stops. Bike lanes along the corridor are substandard and do not have adequate pavement markings and visibility to motorists. Southbound bicycles are often observed crossing 80th Ave NE, traveling against the flow of traffic, to access the SR522 signalized crossing to the Burke Gilman Trail.
