The City has received an award of $900,000 from the Multimodal Transportation Account (State Appropriation-HSIP) to improve traffic safety conditions at five intersections on Main Street and Spruce Street. These intersection improvements were identified as priorities in the City's 2024 Local Road Safety Plan and Subsequent Safety Action Plan. The state Multimodal Transportation Account is funding the majority of the cost of the intersection improvements, but two of the four street segments between the intersection improvements also need to be improved. The segment on Main Street between Broadway and Spruce needs upgrades to the old and deteriorating pavement as well as replacement of the majority of the sidewalks to meet current standards. The segment on Spruce between Main and 1st needs upgrades to the pavement surface and minor sidewalk improvements at driveways. Most of the Storm drain inlets are the older style that are a hazard to bicycles.

Project Description
Install various treatments including all-way stop control, curb extensions, median refuge islands, and pedestrian crosswalk improvements at the five intersections as funded by the Multimodal Transportation Account. Partner with the Transportation Improvement Board (TIB) to complete pavement and sidewalk upgrades on two segments between the intersection work by grinding and overlaying existing pavement. Utilize TIB funds to upgrade the sidewalks between Broadway and Spruce on Main Street to replace deteriorating concrete and meet current ADA standards.
