Project Description

WSDOT has attempted to improve operations on SR 525 through channelization and median improvements, but capacity is limited and an alternative route for both Mukilteo residents and businesses is needed for vehicular and bicycle commuters alike. Wanting to provide an alternative, the City began planning to construct a missing link in their system, connecting Harbour Reach Drive between Harbour Point Boulevard SW and Beverly Park Road, starting as early as 2005 with the Harbour Reach Extension Route Study. Today, nearly all right-of-way (ROW) has been purchased, 60% engineering and design efforts have been completed and moving toward Bid-Ready documents, and, with TIB assistance, an alternative route will be constructed in 2019 to better serve vehicles, pedestrians and bicyclists. The legislature also recognized the importance of this project to citizens of Mukilteo and provided $15.1 million in funding as part of Connecting Washington.
