Existing Conditions

The project would significantly improve driving conditions, enhance pedestrian accessibility, and extend the lifespan of an important road corridor that serves an historically underserved community. Pavement surface condition is poor (2019 avg PCI of 50/100) with extensive cracking, potholes, and failing utility patches. Pedestrian facilities along the road corridor, including all curb ramps, were prioritized for replacement in the King County Road Services Division's 2021 ADA Transition Plan, due to physical design and proximate pedestrian destinations. The corridor supports elementary school traffic, frequent bus service (Metro #107), freight, and other traffic bound for SR-900, Renton Ave South (minor arterial), and Beacon Ave South (major collector). The route is used to access key community destinations, such as Campbell Hill Elementary School, Skyway Park, grocery stores, a bowling alley, and many other commercial destinations.
