Existing Conditions

Redmond and neighboring communities to the east are growing rapidly. The City identified two areas in need of mobility solutions and congestion relief - Downtown Redmond and Marymoor Village. As the future site of two light rail stations and a 1,400-stall parking garage (Marymoor Village), these two areas will add thousands of new apartments to the City. The combination of growth and the introduction of new light rail service in 2024 will add vehicle trips to nearby roadways, especially as travelers commute to the Marymoor Village Station. Redmond Way (SR 202) provides a critical connection between east King County (e.g. Sammamish) and the rest of the Puget Sound region. The City plans to improve mobility in the Bothell Way(SR 202) corridor from Downtown Redmond toward the City of Sammamish, beginning with improvements at NE 70th Street and NE 76th Street.

Description of Improvements

Redmond is proposing a two-fold solution to improve the Redmond Way (SR 202) corridor at two key chokepoints, beginning where Downtown Redmond's east/west arterial network converages (including Redmond Way (SR 202) , Cleveland Street, and Bear Creek Parkway). Project #1 adds a second eastbound left turn lane on Redmond Way (SR 202) at the intersection with NE 76th Street and an associated second receiving lane on NE 76th Street, terminating at the signal serving Fred Meyer and Target. Project #2 constructs a second northbound left turn lane on Redmond Way (SR 202) at the intersection with NE 70th Street. These two projects are included in a design-build contract for the Downtown Redmond Link Extension with Sound Transit.
