Existing Conditions

76th Avenue S is an Industrial Collector Arterial in the heart of the Kent Manufacturing and Industrial Center (MIC), a regionally designated 3.1 square mile area that provides a significant amount of manufacturing, industrial, advanced technology, and related employment. The Kent valley is home to approximately 5,800 businesses employing more than 77,000 people. The Kent valley is host to the second largest warehouse/manufacturing center on the west coast, which includes over 45 million sq. ft. of warehouse/industrial space. Products from the Kent Valley are distributed worldwide via the Ports of Seattle, Tacoma, and SeaTac airport. Kent manufactures include aerospace suppliers, rocket builders, and high-tech machinery. Segments of 76th Avenue S are below FEMA flood elevations. Flooding occurs seasonally which creates significant traffic delays, limits capacity, increases travel time/emissions and creates conflict points for vehicles and pedestrians.

Description of Improvements

This project will construct drainage and road improvements on 76th Aveune S from 22010 to 21213 76th Ave S. The project will raise the roadway by approximately 3.5 feet to above the FEMA 100 year flood elevation. This will essentially eliminate the seasonal flooding issues along this portion of the roadway. In addition to raising 76th Avenue S, existing 2 lane segments will be widened to 3 lanes. These improvements will increase capacity and improve travel times. Kent’s role as a regional economic generator and host to the thousands of businesses and their employees relies on a sound roadway network.
