Existing Conditions

This Macadam Road South Sidewalk Improvements Project is a priority for the City and is included in our six-year Capital Improvement Program and Complete Streets Ordinance. Macadam Road South has numerous high-density housing sites and single-family homes, and connects with Tukwilas Urban Center, schools, parks, and community gathering spaces. However, many of these locations are inaccessible to pedestrians due sidewalk gaps from S 144th street to S 150th street. Additionally, a portion of the sidewalks that do exist are not ADA compliant and in need of replacement. Despite the lack of sidewalks, pedestrians still walk this arterial to access locations such as Macadam Winter Garden Park, Southcenter Community Baptist Church, Showalter Middle School, Foster High School, and the Tukwila Library. Overall, these sidewalk gaps are a critical safety risk and detrimental to the well-being of our residents, as they create barriers to education, recreation, and community services.
