Region: Puget Sound | Legislative District: 29 | Length: 2,400.00 ft. | FY 2021 Sidewalk Program (SP) |
Existing ConditionsSidewalks have been completed to the south of project extending to services provided by the city center. In addition, sidewalks have been recently constructed north of the project limits leaving a 1500-1800 foot gap in the improvements on either side of the roadway. The additional sidewalk extensions to the south have increased pedestrian traffic to the point it is now becoming problematic for this stretch. Pedestrian activity along the 40 mph corridor is so active that they have worn a dirt path in the shoulder. |

Sidewalks will be installed so that pedestrians can safely navigate this stretch of Lakewood Drive. This project will complete the gap in bike and sidewalk connectivity. The City will install a ten-foot sidewalk along the western side of Lakewood Drive for bikes and pedestrians. During the design for the phase to the north, speed studies were conducted and it was determined that the safest route for bicyclists in the corridor was a shared use path along the sidewalk. A traditional six-foot sidewalk will be installed on the east side.
