Existing ConditionsThere is a critical sidewalk gap in the South Hill community sidewalk network that limits connectivity and accessibility between various land uses. Unimproved shoulder, roadside drainage and obstructions often force pedestrians to use travel lanes between the intersections of 94th Avenue E and 97th Avenue E. Filling this gap will result in a continuous sidewalk system between Zeiger and Firgrove Elementary Schools, Ballou Junior High, Rogers High School and the Heritage Recreation Center. The new sidewalk section will provide a continuous link between various land uses, the Longston Place Towne Center and the SR 161 corridor, which are planned for high density mixed-use development. High density housing is present along the 136th Street East corridor and senior housing is located a few blocks to the north of the western project termini. The project will provide a safe and accessible travel route to encourage pedestrian activity. |

The plan is to construct approximately 850 feet of sidewalk on the north side of 136th Street E between 94th Avenue E and connect to the frontage improvements at 97th Ave E, where a development project recently constructed high density residential units. The construction of sidewalk completes an important pedestrian network gap. This new segment will connect pedestrian infrastructure from two previously funded TIB projects (P-P-027(P04)-1 and 8-1-027(065)-1). The project will also install curb ramps to make the new connection accessible.
