Region: East | Legislative District: 14 | Length: 42.00 mi. | FY 2021 Small City Sidewalk Program (SCSP) |
Existing ConditionsIn order to walk or bike from the residential neighborhood north of the North Fork of Cowiche Creek, people of all ages and abilities are required to cross a 28-feet-wide bridge in active roadway travel lanes to access the City for education, employment, and services. The automotive bridge is located on Franklin Road and is part of a priority pedestrian corridor listed in the Tieton Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan. The Franklin Road pedestrian corridor offers the most direct route for children between the residential neighborhoods from north of Cowiche Creek and all along the western edge of the City and Tieton Intermediate School located just south of Naches Avenue on Franklin Road. This corridor also offers the most direct route for adults choosing healthy, non-motorized, transportation options to access City services and employment. |

In 2019 Tieton was awarded $300,000 in Complete Streets funding to design and construct continuation of sidewalk and curb and gutter from Arkansas Avenue northerly on Franklin Road (east side) towards the North Fork of Cowiche Creek. Environmental documentation and permitting for the Franklin Road pedestrian bridge was included in the Complete Streets funding Work Plan. To complete the identified Franklin Road non-motorized corridor, the City needs to design and construct the pedestrian bridge across the North Fork of Cowiche Creek.
